Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I apply to the MPAS program?

All candidates for admission to Touro University Nevada, MPAS program, are required to apply to www.caspaonline.org. CASPA will then forward completed applications to Touro University.


2. What is the application process?

Once the application is received, a Supplemental Application will be sent out. Completed applications for admission (including the Application, Letters of Recommendation and signed Technical Standards Certification) are reviewed by the Admissions Office to determine eligibility. Not all candidates who submit an Application will be invited to interview. Once a candidate’s application is complete and the appropriate Admissions Office review has been completed, each candidate will be notified of their status via U.S. mail.


3. How can I check the status of my application?

Candidates wishing to check the status of their application should do so by sending e-mail to Mr. Roger Corbman at rcorbman@touro.edu. Please indicate in your
e-mail that you are inquiring about an application for the MPAS program.


4. Is there an admission deadline?

The admission deadline is April 1, 2006 for the MPAS Class of June 2006.


5. What are the pre-requisites for the program?

All applicants must have completed eight units in each of the following courses Biology, Organic Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry and four units in Physics. In addition, the applicant must submit a personal statement on why he/she desires to be a PA and evidence of experience in the health care profession or community volunteer work. Two letters of recommendation, one from a provider (MD, DO, NP, PA), must be submitted. The applicant must have at least a 2.7 GPA.


6. Is there any flexibility with the 8 unit pre-requisite requirements?

The 8 unit pre-requisite is based on two one semester courses (3 units each) and two labs (1 unit each). If you have completed the standard series of courses that your institution offers yet you do not have 8 full units, please contact Roger Corbman at rcorbman@touro.edu. Please be prepared to submit course descriptions. These situations will be reviewed by the Admissions and Standards Committee on a case by case basis.


6. Is Touro University Nevada MPAS accredited?

As a branch campus of Touro College, Touro University Nevada is fully accrediated by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), a federally recognized regional accreditation agency. In addition, the MPAS program is provisionally accredited through the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant. (ARC-PA). Provisional accreditation is an active accreditation status and, according to current NCCPA and ARC-PA policy, those graduating from a PA program that has held an active accreditation status at anytime during the student’s enrollment are eligible to sit for the NCCPA exam.


7. What fees are required during the application process?

There is a $50.00 application fee when returning the Supplementary application. If accepted into the program, a $500.00 deposit will be required (all of which is applied to tuition).


8. Does the program accept transfer credits or credit for experiential learning?

Although many applicants may have taken similar courses found within the PA curriculum or worked in areas that require medical expertise, these courses and/or experiences are not transferable. The curriculum is carefully constructed in such a way that many of the courses are integrated. Because of this, there is no advanced placement.


9. If I am accepted, when will the next class start?

The next class will be starting June 12, 2006 with a planned graduation date of October 26, 2008.


10. How many candidates will be accepted for the next class?

Fifty students will be selected.


11. Can one attend this program part time?

No. Due to the fixed sequence of the curriculum, all students must attend full time.


12. Must I complete all of my pre-requisites before I apply?

You may apply, however, matriculation is dependent on successful completion of all your coursework.


13. How can I schedule a tour of the campus?

Tours of the Campus are typically conducted on most Mondays and Tuesdays and many Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 11:00 a.m. to noon. Please contact the admissions office to verify that a tour is being given on the day you wish to visit the campus.


14. Is financial assistance available for those attending the MPAS program?

Yes. The nature and type of financial aid available will vary by individual. For specific questions regarding financial aid, please contact Roger Corbman at rcorbman@touro.edu. All applicants are also encouraged to complete the FAFSA form on-line at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. Touro University Nevada’s school code is 010142.

15. What is the Accreditation of Touro University Nevada’s PA program?
The PA Program is provisionally accredited by the Accreditation review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). The ARC-PA is the recognized accrediting agency for the approval of all Physician Assistant programs. Provisional accreditation, which is the initial process for a new program, is an active accreditation status and will allow graduates to take the Physician Assistant National Certification Examination (PANCE). The University is regionally accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
