Touro University Medical Spanish Club
Mission Statement:
The mission of the Medical Spanish Club of Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine is to prepare Touro University students to enhance communication with patients who speak Spanish, and to promote cultural competency with Latin cultures.
Purpose:
To make ourselves more culturally competent physicians in a rapidly diversifying nation and abroad.
Why Join?
This club is not just for people who speak Spanish. This club is to help all skill levels learn Spanish useful in the hospital and clinic setting. Each meeting will give a mini basic Spanish lesion then elaborate on a more specific theme to finish the meeting. This ensures that all skill levels are welcome and are learning something new. Even if you do speak Spanish this club is a great opportunity to practice medical terms and perform clinical setting role-play. (Over 19.7% of Nevada’s population is Hispanic, over 25% of western US is Hispanic (1), and Spanish is the 2nd most common language in the world (2))
