Why Be a Part of SAA?
SAA is a wonderful place to meet others and find lifelong future friends who understand the stressors of medical school life. You will have the opportunity to affect peers and help others in the community. We hope that you will join us, and make this a successful and exciting year.What is the SAA?
This group is for the spouses and significant others of Touro University College of Osteopathic students. Medical school is hard for everyone in medical school- not just the student. The SAA provides a place for the spouses and significant others to make new friends and explore their new life. The goals of the SAA are to support, educate, and serve the students and community. Our affiliate organization is the Advocates for the American Osteopathic Association (AAOA). This national organization are made up of spouses and significant others of Osteopathic Physicians throughout the nation. The goals of the organization are similar to our own.
Support
The SAA will provide opportunities for you to make friends others who are a part of the medical profession. Social meetings will allow you to meet others and have fun on your journey. Last year we had a Sofa Talk meeting that allowed the significant others to discuss how deal with the stress of medical school.
Educate
Education is why your family chose to come to Touro-University Nevada for school. As a spouse or significant other you need to have your life enriched as well. Last year we were able to have a grocery shopping on a budget class- many spouses have been able to stretch their money.
Serve
The main focus this past year has been helping others in the Las Vegas area community. By giving to others it provides us with the opportunity to reach out to those who are less fortunate. We held a Charity Chili Cook-off and Bake sale- we were able to raise about $700 that was given to the Las Vegas Veteran’s Homeless Shelter. This shelter not only provides a home, but job skills, and a stable environment so they can get back on their feet. We held more activities including; a family BBQ and swim party, a family super-bowl party, food drive for a women’s shelter, TUNCOM’s biggest loser, and more.
