Welcome to the TUN Student American Academy of Osteopathy (SAAO) Homepage

Thank you for your interest in our organization.  We look forward to providing the DO student population at Touro University Nevada a wealth of knowledge and opportunity in the field and study of OMM.  Here’s a little about our club…

Objectives:

The objectives of the Student American Academy of Osteopathy are for its members to acquire a better understanding of osteopathic principles and practice, to attain maximum efficiency in osteopathic structural diagnosis and manipulative treatment and to foster, in themselves and in others, a clear concept of the clinical application of osteopathic principles and practice in health and disease. Membership serves to broaden and expand students’ understanding of the osteopathic concepts in practice.*

Additional Events:

Mini Med School

Tuesday, April 17 from 3:00-5:00 PM at a local elementary school

Mini Med School is an educational event designed to teach children, ages 7-10, about nutrition, hygiene, and osteopathic medicine. We are looking for about 8-10 volunteers to man one of the six health stations (bones, organs, medical equipment, nutrition, hygiene, exercise). We are giving preference to those individuals who have previously participated in one of this year’s Mini Med School events, as we need experienced leaders. We will also be joined by members of the OT program, and possibly MHS.

OMT & Clinical Clerkship Presentation by Dr. Michael Kurisu

Thursday, April 26 from 5:30-7:30 PM in the OMM Skills Lab

Dr. Kurisu is board certified in family medicine as well as in integrative and holistic medicine. He is in a private practice that is 100% focused on osteopathic treatments and integrative medicine consults. His clinic regularly has 3rd & 4th year rotating medical students; a few of whom have come from Touro Nevada. He will be coming to speak on: OMT techniques for rotations in both family practice & in the hospital, and D.O vs M.D residencies for primary care. He will additionally hold a lab component that will include OMT board review material. This will be a great learning, reviewing, and networking opportunity. We hope you’ll be able to attend!
